SUB Sea 3D systems andapplications and systems from Laseroptronix

Laseroptronix offers several designs for sub sea laser radar and 3 D measuring systems for sub sea applications. Most operate by green lasers and detectors and are scanned in some ways. Depending on range and application we use several solutions. All applications are different and this makes an analyze of the application needed before we can say what fits best for this unique case.

Main technology for sub sea 3D measurement systems

  • Triangulation based sensors where we use a laser and a detector measuring the angle to the reflex and from this calculate a distance. This device is scanned in 1 or 2 axis and this generate an image in 3D.
  • Time of flight sensors. Here we send a very short pulse of green light (1 nanosec) and detects when the reflex commes back. This device is also scanned in one or two axis mechanically
  • Range gated solutions. Here we use a laserbased defocused beam and send a very short pulse. This is grabbed by a inage intensified camera where the shutter speed is carefully contrrolled.
  • Ultrasonoic systems where we have some low prices solutions for 2 and 3 D measurement and viewing.
Triangulation 3D scanning point scanners

This is a point laser and a position sensing camera measuring thje angle and then calculate it to a distance. The arrangement is scanned in one or two axis and this makes a 3D measurement possible. Range is 1,5-2 tims the visible range in water. The practical max range is 20-30 meter if water is clear and fine. This device do also give an simultaneous synchronized gray scale image of area. Photo on top of this page and the related 3D of a buoy is done by this device,

Accuracy is typical 1/1000 of range and speed between 1000 and 10000 Hz

Triangulation 3D line scanners.

This device use a laser with line optics to generate a distance profile at high speed. Characteristics is similar to point scanners but at long ranged this device needs a very strong laser.

These devices can be very fast and collects over several millions 3D coordinates per sec. Image of hand can be done with over 1 megapixels in less one sec.

These devices at shorter ranges can be accurate to the 0.1-1 mm area.

We have done a triangulation scanner for sub sea with 25 meters range. THis device have an accuracy close too the sensor of about 5-10 mm. Farest away the accuracy is about 10 cm.

Range gated cameras do also have a capability to be used as a 3D laser radar. Then we have no moving parts and at the same time have an operators camera. Here accuracy is limited to 20-50 cm only.
