Obstacle detection of people on the rail tracks
Top image The laser radar is at upper right corner and scanns the red area. The person / obstacle is at center with green cloths and he is detected by the scanning laser beam.

Bottom image The person is laying at the rail but the narrow laser beam can detect the person. Beam is less than 35 cm at 100 meters distance and can see small obstacles just coming up over the rail top.

Smart Vision Platform Ladar LRP 100 is an obstacle detection system designed to see people walking or laying in rail track areas near stations or anywhere else. The unique characteristics only possible to get by a laser radar design makes it possible to pin point out the small surface of a person laying between the rails at long distance. LRP100 is a similar design to the other Smart Vision system made form obstacle detcion in rail road crossings LRP 100 can see pedestrians as well as cars or other obstacles threwed down on the rail by huligans. This technology is now accepted in several countries for rail road applications . We have very good references of systems working in the most severe conditions outdoor in winter and summer.

This technology is the only available system based on optics which is fail safe according to rail road regulations and demands. Radar and inductive systems have not been able to fully meet the hard requirements by rail road authorities. They can never be fail safe.

Technical specifications of Smart Vision LRP 100 laser radar systems

  • Laser safety class Class 1
  • Vawelength 905 nm in the near IR vawelength area
  • Max range of laser distance meter 300 meters but application recommends less than 100 meters
  • Beam diameter at exit is 20 mm and at 100 meters distance 35 cm
  • Minimum size of detectable object at 100 meters distance and at a light gray surface is 100x150 mm
  • Measurement speed of laser distance meter unit 1000 Hz while scanned in one axis
  • Scanning angle adjustable from zero to 60 degree mechanically along a horizontal line over the area
  • Scanning speed 1 Hz / cycle independant of angle
  • Scanner based on an oscillating mirror design with very long service intervalls
  • Responce time to see a person or obstacle is 3-5 sec depending on settings and distance
  • Max distance in bad weather. If you can person clear you can measure
  • Dimensions 350x500x150 mm in a steel cabinet. Sheet thickness 2 mm
  • Encapsulation IP 62 and weight of complete system is about 12 kg
  • Operating voltage 18-32 volt DC and power consumption is max 100 WA without heater
  • Power consumption of integrated heater is 100 W below 5-10 degrees C in ambient temperature
  • System is CE marked to highest level of RF noise

  • SVP100-1000FS Fail safe model 100 meter range and 1000 points per sec scanner. Fail safe outputs.
