3D map making systems. 3 D map based on 3 D shapes which are possible to make by a LADAR from the air. The LADAR can make a 3D grid model as we know its position by GPS sensor on board the air craft. The Laser is scanned at high speed and position is known so in a post processing work the 3 D shape is done. Photos are recorded at the same time as the laser is scanned and this makes it possible to coordinate the photos with the 3 D shapes. From this the map is done.

3 D and 4 D geomatics information and map making system The data from a LADAR can be displayed in several ways and here we have added a third depth axis with information from an extra sensor. This sensor can be almost what is needed and data are coordinated in an easy to operate way. The way to coordinate data is some time called voxels equal to volume pixels. Volume pixels / voxels can be an extra parameter over layer on the 3D map done by the laser scanner

This is a way to show 3D data generated from a laser radar system. 3 D displays are far more power full than 2 D displays and the future trend is 3D as computers can handle the extra power needed to work in 3D virtual reality worlds.

Forest tree height analyze This image is laser radar images 90 degree down to a Forest of pine trees. Lots of laser shots are cached by foliage but still a lot can go down to the ground . This makes it possible to make a 3D map of the ground as well as measure the height of the trees. This system is also an altimeter for the plane and an analyze instrument at the same time. ALTM 400 is a high speed and high accuracy system to a good price of USD 3000 complete. This is a very good system for airborne laser altimetry. The system can measure at 10 cm accuracy from 1-400 meter at 1000 measurements per sec.

3D model generated from a Geomapper system from a helicopter. This is 90 000 points over a dam in Noppikoski in Sweden. This is raw data 3D without any filtering of data.
3D scan by a high accuracy scanner that can detect deviations of 10x10 mm at 100 meter in distance. Here we scan and look for small parts on a runway at an airport ( Bromma Stockholm).

We can see a piece of sugar direct on the runway at 100 meter in distance.

max range is 350 meter where we can see a golf ball sized object.
