Detta laserradar system har egenskaper snarlika en radar men en hel del fördelar då lasern är mycket mera exakt. Över 200 system är i drift varvid mest innom marina applikationer och off shore på Nordsjön.

MDL are manufacturers and designers of laser based positioning and trackingsystems. Using the latest gallium arsenide laser diode technology MDL have produced a marinised radar system suitable for repetitive, high accuracy
positioning and tracking of marine vessels, floats and other targets of interest. Development of the system commenced approximately 9 years ago. Today over 200 systems have been sold to the seismic and DP industries. The latest MKIII high accuracy model of Fanbeamä has been developed to broaden its appeal to hydrographic

Product Description

The Fanbeam provides an automatic scanning range and bearing measurement system which combines the convenience of radar with the accuracy of laser ranging.
The basic principle of laser ranging is to measure the time that a pulse of light takes to travel from the laser to the target and back again, then calculate the distance by multiplying this time by the speed of light, which is constant.

Principle of Operation
A Fanbeam system comprises of a Fan beam laser unit mounted on a gearbox/ encoder assembly. The Fanbeam' of pulsed laser light is produced by a multiple array of semiconductor laser diodes in combination with special optics. A pulse reflected from a reflective target is timed and multiplied by the speed of light to give a distance. At the instance of a received return the electro, optical encoder is triggered to give the angle. The laser unit runs at 5,000Hz thus allowing a number of returns to be registered for each target. Processing of these returns within the unit allows increased range and angular accuracy to be achieved.
The vessel or tripod mounted unit is controlled remotely by cable from a custom universal control unit or PC computer with custom software.
