Fanbeam TM 4 AUTOTILT PRECISION POSITIONING AND TRACKING SYSTEM

MDL's Fanbeam TM 4 AUTOTILT is a laser radar system used primarily for repetitive, high accuracy positioning and
tracking of marine vessels, and static and semi-static anchored structures. The system consists of a laser
scanning unit with a vertical 20º fan of light, mounted on a motorised yoke which can rotate 360º. The unit is
controlled by a rugged universal control unit (UCU) which features a backlit keypad for operations carried out at
night.
The auto tilt mechanism incorporated into the yoke allows the laser scanning head to be adjusted by ±15º giving
a total beam range of -25º to +25º. This feature allows for large differences in elevation between a DP vessel and
a rig target, for example.
The Fanbeam TM is now in regular use on board floating production units, drill rigs and ships, survey vessels,
shuttle tankers, pipe and cablelay barges, repair vessels, stone dumpers and dredgers. These vessels are
required to operate in high risk areas, for example, close to offshore platforms or in offshore LNG terminals
sometimes in extreme weather conditions.
MDL's Fanbeam TM system has many advantages. Our customers tell us that the Fanbeam TM is straight forward
to set up, performs excellently during short range operations (less than 1500 meters), high accuracy is achieved
consistently, the system utilises intrinsically safe targets, requires very little maintenance and is low cost
compared to other systems.

Systemet har mycket goda referenser och är i drift i större antal sedan ett antal år tillbaka. Få system är så väl dokumenterade och väl bevisade som detta system.
