Applications

MDL have consistently designed state-of-the-art, reflectorless surveying instruments for over two decades,

providing surveyors and engineers with a unique topographic data gathering capability

The Surveyor ALS is an advanced, robotic autoscanning laser system. The instrument can be operated remotely and features a pulsed laser range finder with horizontal and vertical angle encoders. Non-contact reflectorless techniques make it possible to survey dangerous or inaccessible rock surfaces up to 1000m away, to accuracies of up to 5cm. Motorised scanning at user specified increments allow high volume, repetitive surveys of rock faces and dams, for example, all without operator intervention. The system can observe up to 3,600 points per hour, significantly increasing productivity and reducing operator fatigue. The Surveyor ALS has an integral CDU. An optional PCMCIA waterproof slot for a 128 Kbyte memory card allows the operator to begin processing of data quickly without interruption to a survey. Hi-low measurement data densities ensure good definition of tunnels, caves, cracks and other abnormalities.

When combined with the latest Penmap software the Surveyor ALS provides a unique, dynamic, ground modelling solution. Instant updates give real-time contouring, removing the need for time consuming post-processing, saving the operator time and money.

New Video Camera Option

MDL's video camera guided, Surveyor ALS enables the operator to capture images and directly correlate them with laser scans providing a unique surveying facility. The system sends live video back to the computer in real-time, enabling remote control and QC via telemetry and telecommunications networks.
