Laseroptronix is happy to offer complete stabilized solutions in cooperation with our sister company Geographia which has been working with airborne documentation since many years. We concentrate on marine applications like search and rescue and land based applications. We will also look at non geographical airborne applications. This paper is a short summary about what we do and what components we use for this.
Micro gimbal system
 
Internal parts from the new gimbal system with an installed laser distance meter and a high resolution camera. The camera is synchronized with the distance meter . This system can carry a load of 2,4 kg and moves at up to 60 degree per second with a pointing resolution of only 20 mm at 100 meter in distance.
This system is available as a pan and tild system without stabilization or as a stabilized heading system with an attitide controll . The update speed of the gimbal is 60 Hz from the internal processor.
The attitude system have a coriolis effect sensor not sensitive for G-forces.
 
This system starts at less USD 15 000 with active stabilization.
Night vision colour CCD cameras giving a good colour image down to 5 mili Lux in ambient illumination.
This is based on slow scan technology and DPS processing.
These cameras do have a realistic price level.
High resolution cooled CCD cameras with very low noise and high resolution.
These cameras have a thermoelctrically cooled back illuminated CCD array and offers state of the art performance. The resolution can be up to 16 mega pixels and dynamic range up to 16 bits . This gives far better performance than film based systems in many applications.
Pyro vidicon cameras based on new thin film technology. This is a high quality camera with acceptable performance for most search and rescue applications. The camera need no cooler and is very rugged.
Resolution is about 300x300 pixels and sensitivity is about 0,2 degree C.
This technology is unique for our partner and we feel it is very competitive to all other alternatives.
Price level is very attractive and realistic.
Image intensified cameras with intensifiers of generation 1 to 4 depending on application. We have several partners who make very special products with unique characteristics.
Thee image shows a good and price attractive Generation 2+ camera. This camera is good for many applications and still realistic to purchase.
For state of the art we offers the 1250x1250 pixels generation 3+ ( 4 ) camera. It is sensitive to only 3 photons and is the best available on the market.
This camera can be time gated to have a very high dynamic range.
Gated viewing laser cameras is a combination of a image intensified camera and a laser.
The laser is pulsed in very short pulses and the intensifier is used as a high speed shutter. The shutter is opened at a precisely controlled delay after the laser pulse and then the light is strobed (frozen) at its flight. By that the illuminated area can be selected. This technology gives an improved range of visibility at bad weather and smoke.
This system is the ultimate camera system for marine search and rescue.
Laser radar ( Ladar ) systems based on scanning laser distancemeters. This is normally a pulsed laser distance meter synchronised with a GPS system and cameras. This gives images with a clearly defined geographical location in combination with scanned profile.
Out put data can be a real 3D image in X,Y and Z. Related to the 3D out puts is the image which can be painted over the 3D image. This is a real 3D world produced by photos.
The combination of a scanner and a camera gives many new possibilities and admits a new way to think This technology is already well proven and in the air since several years by our colleagues at XYZ Geomatics. Laseroptronix have a long experience in this technology for industrial and military application

Electrical wire and pole inspection from a helicopter

Front camera view with the shaddow of the helicopter on the ground. The hight quality images are stored in digital tapes and can be controlled afterwards. The gimbal can be controlled manually or by a attitude sensing system

Top view with the time stamp at bottom. The system is locked to a GPS system and the position of the poles can be defined with sub meter accuracy. This technology is very precise and more accurate than stereo photography methodes.
