| Gated viewing is a very useful technology for improving sensitivity and visibility is bad environment. In most aspects this technology is far better than traditional image intensifiers and in some areas it compete successfully with thermal cameras. | |||||||||||||||||||

| Man illuminated at about 50 m range in absolute darkness. This system operates in zero light and generates its own light. No intensifier can handle total darkness. The white is in the illuminated zone of depth and the dark areas are closer or behind this zone.
Gated viewing laser cameras operate at zero light levels but also at blue light levels in dawn and twilight where no night vision system based on intensifier tubes can operate. The normal image contains a good 320 TV lines resolution |

| Trees a few hundred meters away. Here we know the distance to the illuminated zone so the system have a built in distancemeter. Objects closer and more far away than the illuminated zone are not viewed at all.
Distance resolution is about 10 meter at Sea Lynx and Nord Lynx systems. Range can be over 1000 meter and new coming models can do 10 000 meter. The under water system Aqua Lynx have 30 cm in distance resolution and max range is only about 100-150 meter in clear water. |

| Bushes illuminated with some trees at this side of illuminated zone. Here we have very good shadows and this way can often show what is inside vegetation and obstacles. The vegetation can be front illuminated but still the gated camera can see through.
Image intensifiers sets their magnification related to the front illuminated parts and can not penetrate the darkness behind. This is very common when there are moon light and diffuse reflexes from city lights far away. The capability to see through vegetation , masking nets , protections and bad weather is a unique feature of gated viewing laser cameras. No other technology can do this in the same manner. |

| Trees a few hundred meters away. The objects at closer range are shadows . This way to see through vegetation and see people inside a forest hidden is unique for a gated system. Standard intensifiers are not capable for this appearance. Vegetation of over 90 % density can still not hide the view through it and this opens the door for new applications which was not possible earlier
This image shows it should be realistic to see a man between the trees far away. The illuminations works at a known distance so here we know the distance to the trees. The built in distance meter is very useful in many applications. |

| Man on a road illuminated with a narrow zone. Here the light is only about 15 meter in depth and everything outside this band is in darkness. Pls. note that nothing in front of him or behind him is illuminated and very dark. Distance is about 50 meter.
The range gated systems are the best in detecting as they do only see in a small place of wanted. This reduce information which have to be handled by the brain and this makes all far more easy for operator. In forest crowded areas this is a large problem to see selected areas only. |

| Man on a road an about two hundred meters away . The trees beside the road is illuminated and the man is clearly seen. When there are some ambient light the intensity of all intensifiers adjust the sensitivity down to protect and not get over saturation. The gated system does not care about this problems and can see through the light and what is behind in the shadows.
The sky can be white from ambient lights but these systems do not turn down sensitivity to protect the image intensifier tube and image is always correct. System works from blue hours in dawn and evenings and at night. |
