System description of Geomapper, the aerial 3 D mapping system

Geomapper is an aerial system for 3 D laser scanning and photography of areas . The system is primarily designed for mounting on a helicopter type MD500, Bell 206, AS350, EC120, SA330, or similar air crafts
Geomapper is an airborne system for measuring ground level from helicopter. Its technology is suitable for elongated areas with small width. The position of the helicopter is determined with high accuracy and the distance to the ground is measured with a Gyrostabilized IR-laser. Measuring does not require ground contact and can be conducted over every kind of terrain. Possible applications are power-line lanes and production of terrain models for projecting of highways and railroads.

MEASURING The helicopter's carrier measured GPS-position is corrected in real-time through a radio link or through subsequent processing, which corresponds to a predetermined base station. This information is combined with the measured laser pulses. Disturbances that could affect the results are filtered out with the use of included software.

MODEL Obtained measurement data is processed by the included software, which involves the determination of an average measurement value, antenna offset and abnormal values. Obtained ground level heights, with X, Y and Z coordinates, are transformed into plane coordinates to any system. Subsequently, terrain models are produced.

PROFILE Cross sections within the measured area or profiles along the planned path can be produced from the surface model.
Some of the out put data and displays possible to get by the GeoMapper system. The generated information is very universal and can find its users in many places. Map making , geodata , GIS information. water flows analyze , shore erosion etc.
