GeoMapper system is normaly helicopter operated.
The road is checked at about 50-100 meters altitude and then the scanner cowers typically 50 meter in swath width. The flying speed is 30-70 km per hour depending different factors and demands The laser scanner can measure at between 1000 and 20000 measurements per sec and all are a real 3D global coordinate. The normal outputs are a cluster / cloud of 3D coordinates in a data base . Together there are linked information like video, inertial data, DGPS info and other sensors The Terrascan software can filter out what is the ground and what are obstacles and details on the ground. Global accuracies can be in the 10 cm area for each point which makes the system accurate enough The system can be used for making analyze of best positions for new roads or for upgrading old roads. In booth cases the speed is a key as information for the new job is available faster than with other solutions. |

Here the height profile is easily noticed and we can see how large volumes are needed to move when there is a larger job which shall be done.
