| SeaLynx have a long range and can give good images at over 1000 meter distance. The field of view is 8 degree so it have a telescopic feeling. The sensitivity is so good that it normally can see an electric high voltage line at 600-1000 meter distance. This is possible when there are some illumination in the field of view and less good weather. Goggles and traditional night vision have far limited capability than the gated viewing cameras from Laseroptronix.
One of the best applications is to search areas of water for objects like what you do in SAR (Search and rescue).The water appears very dark and objects very white. In this application the gated cameras gives a far better detectability than what a thermal camera can do. NordLynx have a max range of about 400 meter. It is most suitable for low speed applications but the field of view is over 30 degree so it cowers a large angle and is easy to operate. It is possible to fly on the information only available from NordLynx and it operates in complete darkness as it produces its own light. It is possible to search landing areas from long distance to catch the needed information to make a safe landing approach. This can be done under the worst environmental conditions.
The system penetrate snow and fog and can give up to 4-5 times increase in viewing distance compared to the bare eye with goggles or lamp illumination. Image from a generation 2+ high quality camera. There are some illumination in the field of view which over saturate the camera and the intensifier tube. The dynamic range is not large enough and objects in the darker parts of the image disappears completely. This situation is very typical in many applications for night viewing as it is often common with lamps in many places and darkness between them.
The gated cameras can handle a situation like this with no problems. This advantage is very important and in sharp rescue cases this capability is very important. This image is done at almost the same place as the upper right photo on this page. Here the lamps are small white spots making very little harm. |
